Linville Falls State Park, NC – Review

This is where we had our first camping experience in our RV and it could not have been a better place to find. You're up in the mountains, right off the Blue Ridge Parkway and surrounded by tall trees, grassy fields, a fishing lake and a rolling river - does it get any better?!

So many stars!

We could not recommend this spot enough. The designated RV camping spots are spaced out nicely so you and your neighbors aren’t encroaching on one another either and that’s always a win.

This is an amazing spot to stargaze as well – we even experienced a clear view of the milky way AND if you go at the right time, you could even experience a clear view of a meteor shower. There are hiking trails nearby – we actually walked to them because there were plenty close enough to us here. Sunrises are picturesque, especially if you can get to the hiking trails at the right time too.

It’s peaceful and beautiful, what more could you ask for.

Directions

From I-40 East, take Highway 221 north to the Blue Ridge Parkway at Linville Falls. Go north for one mile to Linville Falls Spur Road, located at Milepost 317, and continue a half mile to the campground.

***Cell Phone Service – we have Verizon and wound up off grid here. The rangers also said that no matter the carrier, it’s just too high and without close enough cell towers to give anyone any sort of service.
Now, was it worth it to be off grid, without any phone or internet service? ABSOLUTELY and we plan on doing it again.

Fun Fact: Linville Gorge is nicknamed “The Grand Canyon of North Carolina”
It’s a great way to put it because us two Floridians coming straight from flat land, hiked non-stop all OVER that area because the views just got better and better. Now get out there and experience it for yourselves!

Notes

Perfect for both RV and tent camping – each having their own designated section. Some spots are reserved, but most are on a first come, first serve basis.

RV sites are strictly dry camping, but provide you with a campfire ring with a grill top attached. All of the spots are spaced out nicely so you have more privacy from fellow campers.
